Scientific Diving in Germany
The Scientific Diving Commission is the professional association for subaquatic sciences in Germany. It brings together researchers from all diving-active scientific disciplines, their associations, experts from statutory accident insurance, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, as well as training companies recognized by the employers’ liability insurance associations.
For the professional sector, there is a training pathway for “Certified Scientific Diver” according to DGUV REGEL 101-023 “Scientific Diving”. This regulation is issued by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) as the responsible state institution. It forms the basis for the socially insured employment of students, technical and scientific personnel who conduct diving operations with a scientific background. At the international level, Certified Scientific Divers are certified as European Scientific Diver / Advanced European Scientific Diver and can work in large parts of the world on this basis.
Foreign scientific divers with the certification “European Scientific Diver / Advanced European Scientific Diver” are fully recognized in Germany.
